A Lachine man in his 20s lost his license for a week and racked up a $1,468 fine after being pulled over on Highway 20 in the Angrignon area May 29, driving 142 km/h in a 70 km/h zone with eight passengers crammed into a car designed for five.

Officers from the Montreal highway control station also found his headlights off at night. Several passengers weren't wearing seat belts and got their own tickets. The vehicle was impounded and the driver received 14 demerit points.

The Sûreté du Québec reminded drivers that speed remains one of the leading causes of fatal collisions on Quebec roads. No injuries were reported in this stop.
