Montreal and its firefighters' union have reached a tentative collective bargaining agreement, the city announced Tuesday. Details remain confidential until members vote in the coming weeks, after which they will be released.
The deal comes after many months of negotiating between the city and the Montreal Firefighters' Association. "We have managed to balance fair recognition of our firefighters' work with our duty to protect citizens' ability to pay," Montreal Executive Committee President Claude Pinard said in a statement.
The firefighters' contract expired in January 2024. The city has been negotiating renewal agreements with multiple unions representing blue-collar and white-collar workers, some of whom warned of possible strikes during September's World Cycling Championships.
