Gas prices across the Montreal area are expected to fall about 8 cents a litre starting at midnight Wednesday, according to a forecast reported by CityNews Montreal.

The reason cited for the expected drop is a recent fall in crude oil prices of more than US$10 a barrel over the past week. Brent crude was about US$103 on Tuesday morning, down from about US$115 a week earlier. Analysts cautioned that fuel price forecasts are volatile and can shift quickly with geopolitical developments.

It also contains no response from retailers, government or industry. The forecast does not say who made it or on what basis.

Watch the pumps Wednesday after midnight. If the 8 cents shows up by Thursday morning, the forecast has been confirmed at the station on your corner.
