Complaints to Quebec's language watchdog hit an all-time high between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026.
The Office québécois de la langue française (OQLF) received 11,000 complaints during that period — a 7% increase from the more than 10,000 complaints logged the previous year.
Language of service remains the most common grievance, making up 35% of total complaints. Language of commercial documentation came in a close second at 33%.
More than half of the complaints were filed against businesses in the Montreal area.
According to the OQLF, the rising complaint count reflects growing concern among Quebecers about their right to work, to be informed and to receive services in French.
