A 19-year-old was stopped with a replica airsoft gun aboard a REM train Saturday evening, briefly disrupting service after multiple 911 calls from passengers who believed they'd seen a real firearm.
Montreal Police responded shortly after 7:30 p.m. and intercepted the train at Ville-de-Mont-Royal Station, where they located the weapon. Police determined no criminal offence had occurred and released the man after educating him about the risks of carrying a replica firearm in public, where it can easily be mistaken for a real weapon.
No injuries were reported. Service resumed to normal operations after officers secured the scene.
