Montrealers got their first chance this weekend to ride the REM's new West Island branch during free preview service, ahead of the line's official opening Monday. The 14-kilometre extension adds four new stations—Des Sources, Fairview–Pointe-Claire, Kirkland, and Anse-à-l'Orme—significantly expanding the light-rail network farther into the West Island. The new terminus at Anse-à-l'Orme will connect riders to downtown Montreal in approximately 30 minutes, transforming commute times and accessibility for thousands of West Island residents.
