REM West Island line opens Monday with free preview weekend
New 14-kilometre Anse-à-l'Orme extension adds four stations to rapid transit network
Montrealers will get their first chance this weekend to ride the REM's new West Island branch before it officially opens to the public on Monday, May 18. The Réseau express métropolitain is offering free service on Saturday and Sunday on its new Anse-à-l'Orme extension, giving residents an early preview of the expansion. The 14-kilometre expansion adds four new stations to the network: Des Sources, Fairview–Pointe-Claire, Kirkland, and Anse-à-l'Orme, extending REM service deeper into Montreal's West Island communities. This marks a major milestone for the rapid transit project, connecting suburban residents more directly to central Montreal.
