Lachine has been added to the growing list of Montreal-area boroughs and municipalities asked to reduce water consumption as the city carries out emergency work on its distribution system.
The water conservation request now affects 23 boroughs and municipalities across the Island of Montreal, including Ahuntsic-Cartierville, Anjou, Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, Hampstead, LaSalle, Plateau-Mont-Royal, Verdun, Westmount, and others.
The city issued the initial conservation request two weeks ago after three water distribution lines were closed for emergency repairs. Residents in affected areas are being asked to reduce non-essential water use—shorter showers, avoiding outdoor watering, and delaying laundry when possible—to help maintain adequate pressure during the work.
No timeline has been announced for when normal water service will resume across all affected areas.
