A suspect wanted in a fatal January 2024 shooting in Ottawa has been arrested in Turkey after biometric checks matched his fingerprints to an Interpol Red Notice.

Jama Roble, 33, was shot on Champagne Avenue in the city's Little Italy neighbourhood on January 29, 2024, and later died in hospital. Ottawa police issued a warrant for a suspect on a first-degree murder charge.

Turkish authorities notified the RCMP after the border-crossing biometric match. The suspect was brought before a Canadian court Saturday. Police are providing no further details, citing the ongoing court proceedings.

The case represents a rare cross-border arrest for a Canadian homicide — a reminder that fugitives fleeing the country can still face extradition and prosecution years later.
