A tornado watch has been issued for Prince George as Environment Canada warns of conditions favouring severe thunderstorms that may produce tornadoes.

Strong winds, large hail, and heavy rain are also possible, with the potential for significant damage to infrastructure, homes, and the natural environment.

If a tornado develops, Environment Canada advises people to go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows—such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell, or interior closet. Anyone in a mobile home, vehicle, tent, or trailer should move to a strong building. As a last resort, lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris.

"If you hear a roaring sound or see a funnel cloud, swirling debris near the ground, flying debris, or any threatening weather approaching, take cover immediately," the watch states. People on the water should be prepared to make for shore and take shelter if threatening weather approaches.
