Monday warmth and high sun — Ottawa, June 1st.

Good morning. It's Monday, and you're waking up to 20 degrees and partly cloudy skies — a proper early summer feel. The UV's running high at 6.0, so if you're heading outside, don't skip the sunscreen; that's the kind of day that sneaks up on you. Light holds till 8:44 p.m., which means you've got a solid evening ahead if you want one. No rain in sight.

On the transit front, keep an eye on the O-Train this morning. Line 2 and Line 4 are launching trains from the yard to mainline, so there may be some shifting around during your commute. It's worth giving yourself a few extra minutes if you're relying on the LRT, especially if you're heading into the public service offices downtown or across to the Hill. National Defence parking is at 7km, so if you're driving that way, budget the extra walk.

A couple of things worth knowing as you head into your week: OC Transpo's got a new chief who's promising to rebuild rider trust — worth paying attention to how that lands over the coming months. On a heavier note, there's a Gatineau man missing after paddleboarding on the Ottawa River, and there were two stabbings at Mooney's Bay yesterday amid some violent confrontations. The usual reminder to look out for each other and stay aware of what's happening around you.

If you're thinking about lunch, the weather's on your side for sitting outside. There's a free salted caramel cold brew running at the Starbucks near college square if you want to grab that. If you're shopping, Loblaws on Greenbank Road has bacon at $2, though you'll want to grab it soon — it expires June 8th. And if you're feeling playful: Kraft Dinner and BeaverTails have teamed up for a summer treat, which is either genius or chaos, depending on how you feel about that combo.

Tonight's quiet on the live events side — Monday doesn't usually load up the calendar. If you want to get ahead of the week, "Singin' in the Rain" is running across the weekend if theater's your thing. Otherwise, hit happy hour somewhere solid or plan your week over a drink. You've earned a breather.

Stay sunscreen-smart out there. Talk soon.
