Grab an umbrella, skip the patio, and settle in for a Saturday evening indoors.

Light rain, live music, and the REDBLACKS tonight — Ottawa, June 6.

Good morning. It's Saturday, and you're waking to 17 degrees and a light rainshower — so give yourself an umbrella before you head out, and pack layers if you're planning to be outside for long. The UV index is moderate at 3.0, so you're not hunting for sunscreen today. Light holds till 8:47 PM, which is a solid evening if you're sticking around the city.

It's a weekend day, so the commute talk can take a back seat. If you're heading downtown or across the river to Gatineau, roads should be clear enough, but the wet pavement means the usual — give yourself a breath of extra time if you're driving.

On the local side, there's some news worth catching up on: a startup here is scaling up carbon-capture technology, which is the kind of thing that reminds you Ottawa's got more going on than Parliament. There's also a new school being named after former PM Mulroney. Not the flashy headlines, but they're the texture of the city moving forward.

For eating, you've got some good moves today. If you're after something warm and cosy indoors — which tracks with the rain — there's Hum on Rideau introducing Ottawa to Uyghur kebabs and noodle dishes. That's the kind of meal that hits right when the weather's damp. If you're keen on trying something newer, there's also a Mexican snack bar in Chinatown worth exploring. And if you want to stay quirky, BeaverTails is running a Kraft Dinner collaboration this summer — never a bad time to grab one of those and duck inside somewhere.

Tonally, tonight's the night to settle in. If you're a sports person, the REDBLACKS take on the Edmonton Elks at The Stadium at TD Place at 7:00 PM — solid energy, indoors, and the kind of evening that works whether the rain keeps up or clears. If live music is more your speed, Dan Bern and Orit Shimoni are at Live On Elgin at 7:30 PM. Or if you're in a theatre mood, Singin' In The Rain is playing at Meridian Theatres at Centrepointe over in Nepean at the same time. All of it's indoors, all of it keeps you warm and dry, and all of it's the kind of Saturday night that feels right.

Stay dry out there. Talk soon.
