Friday heat: 20 and climbing, evening out to play.

Good morning. It's 20 degrees right now but it's going to feel closer to 28 before the day's done — that's the warmest it's been in a few days, so if you've got afternoon plans outdoors, today's your window. UV's running high at 8, so sunscreen if you're out for lunch. You're looking at 15 and a half hours of daylight, with sunset at 8:51 p.m., which means there's real evening light for anything you want to do after work.

One thing worth knowing if you work downtown or use the LRT regularly: that Gatineau co-working space is closing today as the federal workforce gears up for a return-to-office push. Nothing that derails your commute, but it's a signal of what's coming for the public service over the next little while. If you're heading across the river, keep an eye on the usual Friday traffic patterns.

There's been some noise this week about the Belltown Dome closure and what it says about our rec infrastructure aging faster than we'd like — it's worth paying attention to. On the water front, there's been a paddleboarder fatality that's raised real questions about summer safety on the Canal and the river. Both conversations that matter for how we move around the city.

On the brighter side, downtown's getting animated again. Street Seats are back and Snider Park is firing up, which means there's actual reason to be on Bank or around the Market at lunchtime. Speaking of the Market, the dining scene there keeps getting better — if you're looking to eat out this weekend, there's real diversity in spots worth trying. We've also got some solid kebab places around the city where the meat actually falls off the skewer, and if you haven't caught That Bananas yet, they're bringing Brazilian street food into the mix.

Tonight, you've got options. Josh Johnson's comedy band camp is at the NAC at 7 p.m. if you want something weird and fun. There's a Canadian School of Dance recital at Algonquin Commons at 6:30 if you're after live performance. Volleyball Nations League is running day three at TD Place starting at 4 p.m. if you want to catch some sport. Rock and folk are on too — Illscarlett's celebrating 20 years at The Bronson at 7 p.m. Pick your vibe, head out, and make the most of the light.

Have a good one.
