Friday's the gateway drug — here's what to do with it.

Mostly cloudy, warm enough to be outside, and the evening's wide open.

Friday's the gateway drug — here's what to do with it.

It's 16 degrees and mostly cloudy this morning, so you're looking at a comfortable day without the UV beating down too hard (it's at 6, which is high enough to matter if you're out for hours, but not a scorcher). Sunset's at 8:55 tonight, which means if you're planning anything outdoors or want to catch golden light somewhere, you've got a solid window. That's nearly 16 hours of daylight — take it.

The O-Train's got a hold on things today, so if you're heading anywhere near the LRT, plan a little extra time or pivot to OC Transpo. Nothing major reported otherwise, so your commute out of the 613 should move fine.

Mental health support's expanding on the east side — ANCHOR's broadening its crisis response, which is worth knowing if you or someone you know needs it. The NCC also green-lit the Confederation Heights redevelopment plan, so that corner of the city's about to shift. And there's movement in the Senators front office ahead of the draft if you keep tabs on that.

If you're eating out tonight, there's real food news. Chiqui Bakery just landed in Vanier with pan dulce from Mexico City, which is the kind of thing that makes a Friday dinner run an actual event. The ByWard Market has Le Mien Craft Noodle doing hand-pulled bowls if you're in that neighbourhood. Out by the waterfront, Château Laurier's opened Émilie's Terrace for summer dining. And if you want something quick and cold, Cactus Club's running a $9 Smash Burger and Frosé special — perfect Friday math.

For the evening, you've got options depending on your mood. We Were Sharks, Keep Flying, and Fake Friends are playing free at The 27 Club at 7:30 if you want live rock without the ticket price. Max Richter's doing orchestral minimalism if you want something quieter and more composed. There's also Paranormal Cirque Nightmare at St Laurent if you're in the mood for circus chaos. And if you're festival-leaning, Escapade is running all weekend at the RA Centre — Friday's your entry point if you want to dip in.

The Titans are home at Ottawa Stadium this afternoon at 3:30 if baseball's your thing, though tonight's really about what you feel like doing with a Friday evening and nearly nine hours of light left.

Go build something good out of today.
