Saturday's Sunny and Worth Getting Out For
Mainly sunny, 14°C, and 15+ hours of daylight—perfect for live music, comedy, or just being outside.
Morning. It's 14 degrees and mainly sunny today, which means you're not going to need much excuse to get out of the house. The UV index is sitting at 8—that's high, so if you're spending the day outside, sunscreen isn't optional. You've got until 8:55 PM to play with, so plan accordingly.
There's live music happening at the RA Centre starting at 1:00 PM with the Bud Light Escapade Music Festival—the kind of thing that sprawls all weekend if you want to dip in and out. If comedy's more your speed, Daniel Tosh is at the National Arts Centre tonight at 7:00 PM. There's also Paranormal Cirque Nightmare running at St Laurent Shopping Centre at 6:30 PM if you're in the mood for something a bit weirder. And if you're a live music person full stop, Chicago's got two shows running tonight—one at Hard Rock Casino Ottawa at 7:00 PM, if you want to head that way.
On the food front, there's some new stuff worth trying. If you've been craving pan dulce like you'd find in Mexico City, Chiqui Bakery just landed in Vanier. Over in the ByWard Market, Le Mien Craft Noodle is doing hand-pulled bowls if you want something warm and substantial. If you're thinking waterfront and something lighter for dinner, Château Laurier's reimagined their spot with Émilie's Terrace. And if you're just in the mood for a smash burger and something cold and fruity, Cactus Club's dropped a $9 burger and a Frosé special for summer.
Worth knowing: the Senators made a couple of trades this week—they picked up goaltender Ersson from the Leafs and winger Burakovsky from Chicago. If there's a Sens game on your radar, that's the fresh context.
One thing that's been heavy this week: there's an ongoing investigation into a woman missing since January, with her husband now charged with murder. And there was a serious accident on Old Carp Road involving a teen driver that left them in critical condition.
Goulbourn Museum is holding an awards evening for volunteers today too, if you want to recognize the people keeping local history alive.
So: get out, catch some live music or comedy, try something new to eat, and make the most of a genuinely nice Saturday. See you out there.
