Monday's Back-to-Office Push — Here's What Changes Today

It's the first Monday of the back-to-office push, and if you work in the public service, you're probably already at your desk or heading there — four days a week is now the baseline for most federal workers. Mayor Sutcliffe's backing the move as a win for downtown, and you'll likely notice the difference on the commute and around the Hill.

Weather-wise, you've got 17°C and partly cloudy skies, which is pleasant enough for a Monday. UV's sitting at 8 (high), so if you're catching lunch outside, the sunscreen matters more than it feels like. You've got nearly 15 and a half hours of daylight today — sunset's at 8:53 PM, so the evenings are still long. Dress in layers; it'll warm up as the day goes.

If you're driving, keep an eye on Highway 417 — ramp closures are happening through July and August for O-Train work. It's not all at once, but check your usual route before you head out; the construction's going to bite during rush hours. Give yourself extra time if the 417's your main move.

On the local front, Collinda Joseph from Stittsville was just elected to the Canadian Paralympic Athletes' Council — solid news for the community. And if you or someone you know got hit hard by recent flooding, the city's waiving storm-waste disposal fees at the landfill for affected residents. Worth knowing if you're cleaning up.

Monday's pretty quiet on the food and events front, which is typical — the week's just warming up. If you're thinking about dinner, there's good eating in the Market. Le Mien's got hand-pulled noodle bowls in the ByWard that hit the spot, and if you're exploring Vanier, Chiqui Bakery's bringing proper Mexico City pan dulce to the neighbourhood. There are also some solid hidden lunch spots near Parliament if you're looking to break up the office day this week.

No major events tonight — Monday's sparse that way. Grab something good for dinner and call it a win. But keep Bluesfest on your radar for later in the week; it's coming up and always worth the trip.

Stay hydrated today. The heat's coming, and you'll feel it by afternoon.
