Saturday sun, blues tonight, and a circus in the house.
Sixteen and mainly sunny — grab the warmth, SPF up (UV's high), and plan your evening before sunset hits 8:51.
Morning. It's Saturday, the city's yours, and the weather's playing nice. Sixteen degrees, bright sky, and a UV index of 7 means you're looking at proper summer conditions — nothing extreme, but don't skip the sunscreen if you're heading out for the day. You've got nearly fifteen and a half hours of daylight, so there's real time to move.
A couple of things worth knowing as the week settles. Nepean's taken another beating — that's the fourth major storm in six years, and homeowners across the area are dealing with flooding again. The pattern's brutal. And overnight in Orléans, police are hunting three suspects after a break-in that left a homeowner injured. Worth knowing the neighbourhood's on alert.
On a lighter note, if you've got kids or just like the spectacle, there's circus happening this afternoon at The Arena at TD Place starting at 3 o'clock. Circus Rocks is the draw. And if you're more of a live-music person, Bluesfest kicks off tonight at LeBreton Flats at 5 — Saturday pass gets you in, and with the sun not setting until nearly 9, you'll have golden light for a good stretch of the evening. The vibe's right for it.
Food-wise, there's a few reopenings and returns worth noting if you're thinking about where to land for a meal. Rockin' Johnny's Diner is back on Merivale after the Westgate Mall closure, and if you're downtown or near the Market, Yangtze Restaurant has reopened in Chinatown after nearly two years away. Smaller operation but worth the visit if you're craving it. And if you're looking for something more refined, Pine Marten's doing fresh charcuterie in Brigid's Well's basement pub kitchen — creative stuff if that's your lane.
If you're thinking further afield this evening, the ABBA Celebration dinner show is running at Théâtre du Casino du Lac Leamy in Gatineau at 8 o'clock — it's the kind of thing worth the quick drive across the river if that's your speed. Or stick local and catch Bluesfest as the light softens.
Enjoy the day. It's the kind of Saturday Ottawa does well — sunshine, options, nowhere you have to be.
