Bluesfest Saturday, decent weather, LRT still watching the water
Music tonight at LeBreton, couple of good dinner moves, and a heads-up if you're counting on the west line.
Morning. It's 15°C and mostly cloudy out there — soft July weather, perfect for being outside without melting. You've got until 8:46 PM tonight, so plan accordingly if you're thinking evening plans. UV's moderate at 3.0, so the usual sunscreen logic applies if you're out for hours.
One thing to know if you're heading west on the O-Train: flood damage from earlier this month is still causing delays on the west LRT extension, according to the transit chair. Nothing new today, but worth remembering if you're relying on it. Give yourself extra time, or stick to the regular bus routes if timing's tight.
On the local front, a couple of things worth knowing. A new outfit called LifespanMD just opened up here offering proactive health and longevity planning — the kind of thing drawing interest from people thinking longer-term about their health. And there's ongoing work around compounding pharmacies potentially helping ease Ontario's drug shortage — Ottawa's part of that conversation too.
If you're thinking lunch or dinner, Little Italy's Sanguiccio Deli-Cafe is the kind of place where everything comes from scratch. Fair warning: waits are real, but the food's worth it. If you want to sit outside and soak up what's left of the summer, there are solid patios all over the city right now — plenty of spots worth your time. And if you're feeling something with global flavours, Amir Aghaei's doing interesting work at Ayla's Social Kitchen on Preston.
Tonight's the one. Bluesfest kicks off at LeBreton Flats Park at 5 PM — if you've got a Saturday pass, head over. It's a full weekend of it, so you can pace yourself, but tonight's as good as any to get in. Weather's holding, and it's the kind of evening that works for being outside with music and people.
If live music's not your speed, there's an ABBA Celebration show across the river at Theatre du Casino du Lac-Leamy at 8 PM if you want to head to Gatineau.
Get out there. The weekend's short.
