Friday's got three live music lanes—pick your temperature.

It's a cool start—13 degrees—but that UV is sitting at 6, which is high, so if you're outside at lunch or heading out early, the sunscreen's worth grabbing. You've got a long evening ahead of you though: sunset isn't until 8:40 PM, so there's plenty of daylight left to move around.

On the food front, if you're thinking dinner, Spicy Man over on Merivale is worth the trip if you want authentic Chinese with heat levels you can actually dial in yourself. Or if you're in the mood for something newer to the city, there's been a wave of fresh spots opening this summer—Junior & The Kid BBQ is in the mix if ribs are calling your name. Little Italy's got Ayla's Social Kitchen doing Mediterranean and Iranian flavours if you want to roam a bit culinarily.

This evening's where it gets interesting. You've got three different lanes to choose from. Trooper's playing Hard Rock Casino at 7:00 PM if you want the classic rock move. That's the safer bet—solid, fun, you know what you're walking into. If you're after something a bit more underground and indie, NOBRO, Neon Ghosthouse, and Wet For Days are all at Overflow Brewing Co. at 7:30 PM—that's the closer-knit room vibe. And if you've got the stamina, Emo Night: London kicks off at Rum Runners at 10:00 PM, which is the nostalgia play for the late crowd.

All three are walkable from downtown, so if the mood strikes to hop between them, it's not a slog. The weather's holding partly cloudy, so you're not dodging rain—just bring a light layer if you're out that late.

Weekend's shaping up too: Souls of Mischief are bringing hip-hop Saturday, and if you want something weirder, Weird Al's doing his whole comedy-rock thing Sunday. Soccer Saturday afternoon if that's your world.

Have a good one out there.
