Monday's a washout—grab your umbrella and plan indoors.
Rain's moving in heavy. Stay dry, eat well, catch live music tonight.
It's wet out there this morning, and it's going to stay that way. We're looking at 18°C and light showers right now, but don't let that fool you—there's a rainfall warning in effect, and between now and tomorrow we're expecting 50 to 100 mm to come down. That's the kind of day where you leave the bike at home and factor in extra commute time if you're heading downtown or across town. UV's at 5, which barely matters under cloud cover, but sunset's at 8:28 tonight, so at least you've got a full 14-plus hours of grey daylight to work with.
If you're heading to the office, the usual routes should be fine, but puddles and slick pavement mean slower going and maybe more patience on the LRT if everyone's ducking the weather. Nothing officially closed that we know of yet—just the bog-standard Monday morning shuffle with worse footing.
On the news front, Ottawa police wrapped up an investigation that rescued eight victims in a child exploitation case connected to the Philippines. It's the kind of story that hits hard and reminds you why that work matters. On a different note, there's been growing concern about Islamophobia in Nepean following the stabbing on Craig Henry—conversations that need to happen and be heard.
If you're thinking about lunch, Somerset Street is quietly becoming the place to be. Kozhi just opened in Chinatown, and Arlo on Somerset made the cut for the 50 Best Discovery guide—first Ottawa restaurant to land it. If you want something with real heat, Spicy Man on Merivale does authentic Chinese with adjustable spice levels for every tolerance. There's also the Lansdowne Farmers' Market if you want to poke around—worth a look beyond the usual suspects.
Tonight's the time to stay in and warm up. Skip the outdoor plans entirely. There's free live R&B happening indoors if you want to get out and hear something good, or stream something at home if you'd rather skip the weather altogether. This weekend's got some solid rock shows lined up—Killswitch Engage and Machine Head on Friday if you're into metal, plus other stuff across the weekend—but tonight's about staying dry and taking it easy.
Grab the umbrella on your way out. See you on the other side of the rain.
