Saturday's warm and live — music, sports, and the city's moving again.
It's a solid August day. Head out early, eat well, catch something tonight.
Morning's warm — 21 degrees, but it'll feel closer to 29 with the humidity and sun. UV's running high at 7, so if you're outside for a while, you'll want sunscreen. Fog's cleared out, and you've got a full 14 and a half hours of daylight. Sun doesn't set until 8:21, which means plenty of time to be out and about.
A couple of things to know if you're moving around the city this weekend: Scott Street's closing for watermain work starting Monday, so it's still clear today, but plan around it next week. Bigger news — the Highway 417 on-ramp at Lyon Street finally reopened this week after five years, so if that was ever part of your route, you're back in business.
Worth knowing: a Stittsville home went up in flames Thursday evening, but the family got out safe. Also this week, the fire service pulled two paddleboarders off the Deschênes Rapids — reminder that the river's got teeth. And over in Orléans, residents are pushing hard for a protected left-turn signal at St. Joseph after 65 collisions at that intersection. Safety's on people's minds.
If you're thinking about lunch or dinner, the food scene's been humming. Little Italy's got 16 solid restaurants right now, and Somerset Street's transforming into a real dining strip — Kozhi just opened in Chinatown, and Arlo on Somerset made it into an exclusive 50 Best Discovery guide, first Ottawa restaurant to do it. If you want to skip the restaurant altogether, the Lansdowne Farmers' Market's got more going on than the usual organic eggs — worth a browse.
Tonight's got options depending on what you're after. There's a Karthik Guitar Arangetram at Algonquin Commons Theatre at 6 if you want something classical and free. For live music, Honeymoon Suite's at Hard Rock Casino at 7, or you could head across the river to Gatineau — The Hip Experience is doing a Tragically Hip tribute at Theatre du Casino du Lac-Leamy at 8. If hip-hop's more your speed, Strike Tyson's at Rum Runners at 9.
There's also the Trois-Rivières Aigles playing the Ottawa Titans at the Stadium this afternoon at 3:30 if you want to catch some playoff energy.
It's a Saturday worth getting out for. The weather's on your side, the city's got momentum, and there's something for whatever mood you're in.
