Sunday cool-down — catch the evening while the light lasts.

13°C, mostly cloudy, and a sold-out show at the NAC. Plenty to do before dark.

Sunday cool-down — catch the evening while the light lasts.

Morning. It's a cool 13°C out there—bring a layer if you're heading out early, but the UV's running high at 8.0, so sunscreen still matters even under the cloud cover. You've got just over 14 hours of daylight, and sunset's at 8:09 PM, so there's real evening left after dinner if you want it.

Few things worth knowing as you move through the day. There was an unprovoked altercation downtown Saturday that left a bagpiper injured—one of those random, ugly moments that reminds you to stay aware, especially in busy areas. On a brighter note, the folks running the Sharing and Caring backpack drive are seeing record demand heading into back-to-school season, if you've been thinking about pitching in.

Over in Westboro, there's some shifting happening—Brassica, the spot that became known for its banoffee pie, is closing after less than three years. That one's going to sting for people who loved it. But if you're looking for upscale tacos and tequila cocktails, Little Bones has been drawing the crowds. And if you want to venture toward Little Italy, the neighbourhood's culinary game keeps getting sharper—16 standout restaurants now. Arlo on Somerset made the exclusive 50 Best Discovery guide recently, the first Ottawa restaurant to land there, which is genuinely worth the hype if you haven't checked it out.

Tonight, the Chef's Table at the NAC is completely sold out, but that doesn't mean the evening's a wash. There's live music and sports happening across the next few evenings—Deep Purple and Kansas are coming Tuesday if you're in that headspace. With mostly cloudy skies and that cool temperature, tonight's a better evening for being indoors around good food or catching a show than sweating it out on a patio, anyway.

If you're planning the week ahead, keep an eye on those concert lineups. But for right now, take the afternoon easy—grab brunch somewhere you've been meaning to try, get outside while the light's good (even under the clouds), and enjoy the fact that it's Sunday and you don't have anywhere you absolutely have to be.

Stay warm out there.
