Late summer Sunday — warm enough to get out there.
Eighteen degrees, mostly clear skies, and plenty of daylight left. Here's what's worth your time today.
It's a genuinely pleasant Sunday morning — 18°C is a solid few degrees warmer than what we've had, and mostly cloudy means you won't squint through the day. UV's sitting at 3, so nothing to fret about. You've got just under 14 hours of daylight, with sunset around 7:57 PM, so there's real time to work with if you want to get outside.
If you're an early riser, the Titans are playing the Mississippi Mud Monsters at Ottawa Stadium at 3:30 this afternoon — could be a fun way to spend a couple hours if baseball's your thing. Otherwise, Lansdowne's got the farmers market going, which pairs nicely with brunch if that's calling your name.
On the food front, there's some genuine movement happening. Chef Teegavarapu Sarath Mohan just opened Kozhi on Somerset West — it's fine-dining fried chicken, which is a lane that doesn't get crowded. Little Bones over in Westboro's been drawing the crowds with upscale tacos and tequila cocktails if you want something with more of a vibe. Fair warning though: Brassica, that beloved Westboro spot known for the banoffee pie, is closing after less than three years. If you've been meaning to get over there, sooner's better than later.
A couple things worth knowing beyond your Sunday. Mathieu Fleury, who was on council, is getting back into the political arena as a trustee candidate. Bill 33's also rolling out across Ontario right now, and it's putting student organizations in a tight spot — their fees could become optional, which means funding dries up quick. If you've got kids or nieces and nephews in school, worth keeping an eye on how that shakes out.
There was a rough three-vehicle collision west of the city yesterday that killed one woman and airlifted another — the kind of reminder that the roads out that way deserve respect, especially on a Sunday when people aren't always thinking highway mindset.
One more: Ontario's bumped speed limits up to 110 on select highway routes near Ottawa. Not everywhere, but if you're heading out on the 401 or similar, worth clocking the signs so you're not caught off guard.
Tonight? Not much on the live calendar, so grab dinner somewhere that feels right and settle in with something to stream. The weather'll be fine for it.
Have a good one.
