Football and fried chicken — your Sunday sorted

Morning. It's a mild one out there — 14°C, partly cloudy, and you've got till 7:45 tonight to get outside if that's the plan. UV's moderate at 5, so you're fine without going full sunscreen mode, but a light layer wouldn't hurt if you're out for a few hours.

Nothing major to dodge on the roads today — the city's moving. Worth knowing: Twin Elm Rugby Park out in the west end is still closed after a fire Friday, and if you're cycling through Gladstone, the new protected bike lanes from Preston to Arthur are now approved and coming, which is solid news for that stretch.

On the larger side: police are still looking for 16 people involved in a downtown stabbing back on August 4 near Daly and Nicholas. And there was a serious collision involving a motorcyclist and a trailer near Spencerville — worth keeping in mind if you're heading out that way.

Bit of good news, though — volunteers packed 170 backpacks for Ottawa families this week, getting students set up for the year ahead.

If you're thinking dinner, there's real stuff happening. Arlo on Somerset has matured from a pandemic wine bar into a proper restaurant over six years, and if you want something new, Kozhi just opened on Somerset West — a fine-dining take on fried chicken from Chef Teegavarapu Sarath Mohan. Worth a look. On the flip side, Brassica over in Westboro (banoffee pie people will notice) is closing after a solid run — if that's your spot, now's the time.

The Canadian Culinary Championship is also expanding next year to 20 chefs in a team format, so the local food scene's still cooking.

For tonight: the REDBLACKS are home at TD Place at 7:00 against BC Lions — proper football weather, and you'll be done in time for a late walk or to catch your breath before the week. If that's not your thing, Heydoo's playing live at Algonquin Commons Theatre at 7:30, which keeps you indoors and warm. The Chef's Table at the National Arts Centre sold out, so unless you're already locked in, that one's gone.
