Friday kickoff: cooler air, new restaurants, and live music tonight

Morning's sharp at 9°C, and it's noticeably colder than what we've had this week—pull the layers out of storage. Skies are clear all day, which means that UV is running high at 6.0, so if you're outside for lunch or heading out this evening, you won't need sunglasses for show. Sun's down by 7:22 PM, so you've got just under thirteen hours of daylight to work with.

Federal workers are heading back to the office today, which means the usual rush-hour squeeze on the LRT and OC Transpo—if you're commuting into the Hill or Centretown, give yourself the extra fifteen minutes and you'll be fine.

On the food front, the Market's got some real momentum right now. Ruby's just opened with elegant small plates and a serious wine program if that's your mood. Over on Somerset, there's Kozhi, a fine-dining fried chicken spot from Chef Teegavarapu Sarath Mohan that's worth the detour, and Arlo—which started as a pandemic wine bar six years ago—has grown into a proper restaurant. If you need fuel this afternoon, gas prices are dropping eight cents today as the seasonal fuel switch kicks in, so fill up and pocket the savings.

There's wheelchair basketball at The Arena at TD Place this afternoon starting at noon—Day 3 of the IWBF World Championships. If you want to catch something live tonight, Mt. Joy's playing the Hard Rock, celebrating ten years as a band. That's your Friday indie rock option if the 6 or 7 PM slot works for you.

Weekend's shaping up nicely: Cirque du Soleil, Broadway's back, the basketball worlds continue, and live music scattered through the neighborhoods. With the weather this clear and crisp, it's one of those September days that reminds you why you stick around.

Get out there, get sorted, and have a proper Friday.
