Sunday's Sharp—Layer Up for Cirque, Soccer, and Live Music Tonight

Morning's 7 degrees with mostly clouds—a proper early-fall Sunday. That UV's still running high at 6.0, so if you're outside at midday, don't sleep on the sunscreen. You've got good daylight until just after 7 PM, which gives you plenty of runway for whatever you're doing this afternoon and into the evening.

Today's the kind of day that wants you indoors and out in equal measure. If you're after something spectacular, Cirque du Soleil's *Luzia* is at St Laurent Shopping Centre this afternoon starting at 1 PM, with another show at 4:30 tonight. It's the sort of thing worth making time for—Cirque doesn't come through every year.

On the food front, the 613's got some shifts happening. Nutty Greek Bake Shop on Preston Street is closing after 15 years, so if you had a spot there, this might be a last-call moment. A couple of Toronto players are also moving on—Ek Bar's heading out by month-end, but if you're looking for somewhere new to land, Ruby's just opened in the ByWard Market with small plates and serious wine. Arlo on Somerset has also grown into something real over the past six years if you want dinner with some ambition.

Soccer's on at noon—FC Supra versus Atletico Ottawa at The Arena at TD Place if that's your Sunday move.

This evening's packed for live music. CityFolk Festival starts at 5 PM over at the RA Centre, and if you're after something more intimate, Live On Elgin's got indie rock at 7:30 with Insomniak, Often Wrong, Nelligan, and Swallowtails. There's also Billy Joel tribute happening at the Hard Rock at 7 PM if that's calling your name. With the sun dropping early, venues will feel cozy—bring that layer you wore this morning.

On the wider beat: the Home Bosses Youth Centre is looking for volunteers as the school year kicks off, and the Senators are heading into their new season with Linus Ullmark feeling refreshed and ready. A couple of sadder notes—a motorcycle crash near Osgoode claimed a man in his 40s yesterday, and OPS pulled 19 trucks off the road after a safety blitz in south Ottawa last week.
