Morning, it's a proper September Saturday. We're back to mild after the cooler stretch — 11°C, mainly clear skies, and a UV index at 5, so you'll still catch some sun if you're out midday. Sunset's at 6:53, so you've got nearly 12 hours of daylight to work with. Plan accordingly if you're heading out this evening.

A few notes on the city this morning: it's been 200 years since Ottawa was actually born — September 26, 1826 — and worth knowing if you're into local history. Also, if you're scanning the news, police are looking for an 85-year-old man last seen Friday on Carling Avenue, and there are separate missing persons reports for two teens. The jewellery store robberies from earlier in September have been mostly solved — suspect arrested. Worth keeping an eye out.

On the restaurant front, there's some turnover happening. Nutty Greek Bake Shop on Preston Street has closed after 15 years, and Ek Bar (the only Toronto spot's Ottawa location) is wrapping up by month-end. But Ruby's just opened in the ByWard Market with small plates and a serious wine list if you're after something fresh. And if you want a proper meal, keep an eye on Another Dundonald BBQ. Ottawa's got a chef in the conversation too — Yannick La Salle just advanced to next year's Canadian Culinary Championship.

Tonight's got some real options if you want to get out. Cirque du Soleil's *Luzia* is running matinees and evening shows at St Laurent Shopping Centre — grab a 12:30 or evening slot depending on your energy. Live music lovers have choices: Dale Watson & His Lone Stars plus India Ramey at The 27 Club at 7:30, or if you're into metal, Sabaton's *Legends on Tour* kicks off at History Ottawa at 6:00. There's also theatre — *The truth, crois-moi* at Algonquin Commons at 7:00 if that's your speed. Hockey preseason is on too — Montreal-Ottawa split squad at the Canadian Tire Centre at 3:30 in the afternoon.

With the weather this mild and the sun not dropping until nearly 7, you could easily do an afternoon thing and still have time for dinner and a show. Make the most of it.
