Light rain Wednesday—stay dry, catch live music tonight

It's mild and wet out there—7°C, light rain all day, so grab a jacket that actually sheds water. Sunset's at 6:32, so if you're heading anywhere after work, you'll be doing it in the dark. UV's sitting at 3 (moderate), but the rain's doing most of the thinking for you anyway.

The commute should move fine—nothing major on the LRT or OC Transpo this morning. Just the usual October slowdown when people forget how to drive in wet. Take the Canal if you're biking, watch for slick spots near the water.

Worth knowing: local researchers at one of the city's institutions just reversed autism symptoms in mice by fixing blood vessel defects—real progress on something people have been chasing for years. On a heavier note, there's a warrant out for an Ottawa woman connected to a 2025 homicide in Clarence-Rockland. And if you've been wondering what 24 Sussex is going to look like when it's finally restored, there's a design pitch called '13 Voices, One Home' that's in the mix—the restoration's moving, slowly.

Food-wise: Yannick La Salle, a chef working here in Ottawa, just advanced to the 2027 Canadian Culinary Championship, which is worth a nod. Tougher news—Nutty Greek Bake Shop on Preston Street is closing after 15 years, and Ek Bar (Toronto restaurateur's only spot up here) is wrapping by month-end. If you've been meaning to go, now's the time. A&W's launching a Hot Honey BBQ Teen Burger tomorrow if you want something new and straightforward.

Tonight's thick with options. Cirque du Soleil's Luzia is running at St Laurent Shopping Centre at 7—if you want full spectacle and you're okay being indoors (rain's not an issue), that's the move. Pat Metheny's at Algonquin Commons Theatre at the same time if you're after live jazz. The Bahamas are playing History on Sparks at 7 if you want something smaller and looser. There's Dirty Bingo at Observatory if you want to laugh and win money simultaneously. Pick your vibe—everything kicks off at 7.

Stay dry out there, and if you're heading out tonight, grab a seat early.
