Clear and cold Saturday before the long weekend.

It's 1°C this morning and staying clear all day, so dress warm if you're heading out. We've dropped a few degrees from earlier in the week—the bite's back. You've got solid daylight until 6:27 PM, so plan accordingly if you're doing anything outside.

Circue du Soleil's Luzia is running at St Laurent Shopping Centre all weekend, with matinees at 12:30 PM and evening shows at 4:00 PM. If you've been meaning to catch it before the long weekend hits, today's your shot—it's a three-day chance to grab tickets across Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

Locally, there's some real news worth knowing. The NAC Orchestra musicians just voted unanimously to authorize a strike over wages—that one's developing. On the election side, if you haven't voted yet, the advance voting and mail-ballot deadline is October 16, so you've got a week to sort it. The Senators are down William Eklund for the foreseeable future with an ankle injury, so that's one fewer bright spot in the lineup for a while.

On the food front, Zen Bowl just opened in Centretown with Shanghai soup dumplings and pan-fried buns if you're after something warm today. And if you caught the news about some of the city's best restaurants losing great chefs to the hunt for actual work-life balance—yeah, that's a thing happening here too. Meanwhile, Nutty Greek Bake Shop on Preston Street has closed after 15 years, so if you were a regular there, that's gone. On the brighter side, local chef Yannick La Salle advanced to the 2027 Canadian Culinary Championship, so there's that.

Tonight's got options if you want to get out. Despised Icon, 200 Stab Wounds, TEETH, Rust, Scorching Tomb, and midlife. are playing The Bronson at 6:00 PM if you're into that scene. Dance Now Ottawa's on at History Ottawa at 7:00 PM. Ann Wilson—the voice of Heart—is at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Ottawa at 7:00 PM if you want live music in a different vein. With the cold and clear skies, anywhere indoors feels right, and anywhere well-lit will be beautiful.

It's a Saturday before Thanksgiving, so the long weekend's right there. Get outside if the weather calls to you, or settle in for something live. Either way, it's a good day to do something.
