Cirque's in town, Sens are hot, and the long weekend's calling
Sunday's mild and short on daylight—get outside or get to a show before dark.
It's 4°C and partly cloudy this morning, which means layers and a decent jacket, but nothing stopping you from being out. Sunset hits at 6:25 PM, so if you're planning anything outdoors, front-load it—you've got just over eleven hours of daylight to work with, and the evening comes fast in October.
The Sens had themselves a night last night, rallying past Nashville in a shootout with Pinto sealing it. Good sign for momentum heading into the week. And if you didn't catch it yet—Chabot and Stutzle have pledged $1,872 per win to CHEO this season, which is the kind of thing that feels worth knowing about the guys wearing the jersey.
If you're looking for something to eat, Zen Bowl just opened in Centretown with Shanghai soup dumplings and pan-fried buns—solid move if you want something warm and a little different. There's also a real story brewing around some of Ottawa's best chefs stepping back from the grind: Kat Ferries traded the kitchen for sustainable hours at a butcher shop, and others are making similar moves. It says something about how the work-life thing shakes out in this city, even at the top.
Tonight's got options. Cirque du Soleil: Luzia is running at St Laurent Shopping Centre with shows at 1:00 PM and 4:30 PM today—if you've got family or just want something visually stunning indoors before the sun dips, that's your play. It's technically a long weekend (Thanksgiving), so the timing's right. If live music is more your speed, Mike Kalambay & Shekinah Music are at Algonquin Commons Theatre at 5:50 PM. Hockey's also on—Gatineau Olympiques take on Val-d'Or Foreurs at Centre Slush Puppie at 3:00 PM if that's calling you.
Pick your vibe and get to it before dark. Sunday moves fast this time of year.
