Mist and mild—get out before dark hits early.

It's mild out there this morning—7°C and mist hanging around—so you won't need the heavy coat on your commute. The UV's low, so no sunburn worries. Thing to remember: the sun's dropping fast these days. Sunset's at 6:20 tonight, so if you're planning to be outside, bank on dusk rolling in around that time. Dark comes early in October.

Nothing major holding up the commute this morning, so you're clear to head out on your usual route. Weather's not fighting you.

Couple of things worth knowing: the federal cuts are hitting hard—15,000 jobs gone in the last 18 months as the public service reshapes. If you work downtown or in the civil service, that ripple's probably reaching you. On the lighter side, Cohere just opened their first Ottawa office near Lansdowne Park, so there's some new tech energy in the city. And if you're into politics, Sutcliffe's sitting on a 36-point lead in the mayoral race according to an internal poll.

On the food front, if you're craving something different for lunch, there's a new spot in Centretown called Zen Bowl doing Shanghai soup dumplings and pan-fried buns—solid choice for midday. If you're thinking dinner, keep an eye out: A&W's dropping a Hot Honey BBQ Teen Burger tomorrow across Canada, so that lands Thursday if you want to try it. Also worth noting—Kat Ferries, one of Ottawa's top chefs, just made a move from the grind of a kitchen to running a butcher shop. Different pace, sustainable work. It's the kind of move that sticks with you.

Hockey-wise, the Senators got hammered by the Blues last night, 7-2, ending a three-game winning streak. Not the result anyone wanted, but it happens.

Tonight's got options if you want to get out. There's a Varsity Soccer match—Algonquin Wolves versus St. Lawrence Surge—kicking off at 6:00 PM at Sports Field 6 if you're into that. If live music is more your speed, Anna Graves is at Club SAW at 7:00 PM doing her America's Greatest Burnout Tour. Or if you want to head across the river to Gatineau, Engelbert Humperdinck's at Theatre du Casino du Lac-Leamy at 7:30 PM. Just clock that sunset time—you'll want to be settled wherever you're heading before it gets dark.

Stay warm, stay dry if the mist picks up, and enjoy the mild spell while it lasts.
