Cold Saturday—Cirque and live music keep things warm
It's crisp out there. Grab a coat, hit an event tonight, and plan your day around sunset at 6:14.
Morning. It's a proper fall day—1°C, partly cloudy, and you'll want layers. The UV's sitting at 3.0, so if you're outside for a bit, sunscreen still matters even when it's this cold. Sunset's early at 6:14, so if you're heading out this evening, plan around that.
Weather-wise, this is a solid day for being indoors and out—just dress for it. It's notably colder than what we've had lately, so if you were thinking of a long Canal walk, bundle up.
Ottawa's been moving on a few fronts this week. The city's new Cliff Energy Centre is now heating and cooling over 80 federal buildings—a big infrastructure play. Meanwhile, a local tech outfit, Larus Technologies, just landed $800K in federal funding for an AI platform designed around military scenarios. That's the kind of thing that keeps the capital's tech scene humming.
If you're thinking about food, Zen Bowl just opened in Centretown with Shanghai soup dumplings and pan-fried buns—worth a try if you're in the neighbourhood. And if you've been following the local food scene, chef Kat Ferries recently made a shift from the grind of a busy kitchen to more sustainable work at a butcher shop. Life's too short not to chase better hours.
Tonight's where it gets good. Cirque du Soleil's *Luzia* is still running at St Laurent Shopping Centre—there are shows at 12:30 this afternoon and 4:00 this evening if you want a mind-bending couple of hours. If you're more in the mood for live music, the Black Keys are at the Canadian Tire Centre at 7:30 playing *PEACHES 'N KREAM*. That's a solid Saturday night either way.
If you're into chess, the CPA Ottawa Open Classic is running all day at Algonquin Commons Theatre starting at 9:00 AM, with an evening final session at 4:00 PM. And there's *Levity* at History Ottawa at 7:30 if you want something smaller and quieter.
Soccer fans: Algonquin Wolves take on Durham Lords at Sports Field at 1:00 PM if you want to catch some daylight sport.
It's a good day to get out and do something—just remember your coat. See you out there.
