Cold snap Wednesday — bundle up, but the sun sticks around.
Clear skies and live music tonight. Just dress for it—we've dropped back to 1°C.
It's a proper drop from the past few days. We're sitting at 1°C this morning, clear skies overhead, so at least you'll see where you're going. UV's moderate at 3.0, so sunglasses aren't wasted if you're out at lunch. The sun's hanging around until 6:07 PM, which gives you a solid ten-and-a-half hours of daylight—make of that what you will on a Wednesday.
Dress in layers. That cold's the real news today, not any transit drama, so you're clear for a normal commute if you're heading downtown or across the river.
There's some heavier stuff in the news cycle worth knowing about. A year on from the five-year-old killed by a dump truck in Overbrook, the safety measures people pushed for are still stalled. That one's sitting heavy in the background. There was also a hunting incident in eastern Ontario yesterday that left one dead and another seriously hurt—Greater Sudbury man's facing charges. Closer to home, three people were hit by vehicles on the south side in a single afternoon earlier this week, with an elderly cyclist still in critical condition. Riverside Drive had another collision with a pedestrian in critical condition. It's been a rough stretch on the roads.
If you're thinking about dinner, there's some good stuff worth trying. Zen Bowl just landed in Centretown with Shanghai soup dumplings and pan-fried buns—that's the kind of thing that hits on a cold night. And if you've been watching Kat Ferries' work around the 613, she's made a move: stepped back from the grueling kitchen hours to sustainable work at a butcher shop. That's worth paying attention to. Yannick La Salle, another local chef, just advanced to the 2027 Canadian Culinary Championship, so there's some serious talent still doing it here.
Tonight's got real options if you're looking to get out. There's live music in a couple of spots—Kyla Cobbler at Algonquin Commons Theatre at 7:00 PM, Thundercat with TiaCorine at History Ottawa at the same time, and Spencer Burton with Ian James Bain at Rum Runners at 8:00 PM. All indoors, all warm. If you're more of a hockey person, the Sens are playing—that's always a Wednesday option. Take your pick depending on the vibe you're after.
Stay warm out there. See you tonight.
