Mild Monday in Ottawa: sweater weather, sunshine, and a country show tonight

Morning, Ottawa. It's a Monday, so you already know the week is going to ask things of you, but the day itself is a gentler one than the last few. It's 12 degrees out this morning, mostly cloudy, and noticeably warmer than we've been getting. A light jacket will do you fine on the walk to the bus stop, and you can probably leave the heavy parka at home. UV is around a 3, so sunglasses are a nice-to-have rather than a must. Sunset comes at 5:59 this evening, which gives you about ten and a half hours of daylight, so if you're planning anything after work, you've got plenty of light to get it done before dusk.

On the getting-around front, I moved back home to Napanee after living in Ottawa, and I had to do a double take at the disruption notice that's been making the rounds this morning. Check the details before you head out so you're not caught off guard, and give yourself a few extra minutes on the commute just in case.

In the news, there's a big day ahead for voters across Ontario, and Ottawa's mayoral race is one of the three headliners getting the most attention. If you haven't looked into the candidates yet, today's a good day to do it before you head to the polls. Out in Stittsville, the village association is marking 25 years and has just elected a new board, which is a nice bit of local community news to hear on a Monday. The trustee candidates for the OCDSB are also calling for safer drinking water in schools, which is a conversation a lot of parents around town will want to follow. The sad news is a farm-vehicle collision on Devine Road that took the life of a 79-year-old; police are asking anyone who saw what happened to come forward.

For lunch or dinner, Zen Bowl has brought Shanghai soup dumplings and pan-fried buns to Centretown, which is a good answer if you're craving something warm and comforting on a cool, cloudy day. And if you've been hearing about top Ottawa chef Kat Ferries trading the grueling kitchen hours for more sustainable work at a butcher shop, it's a story worth a read with your coffee.

Tonight, Waylon Wyatt is in town for the Dustpiles World Tour, with Noah James opening, at The Bronson at 7:00 PM. It's an indoor show, so it's a perfect fit for the mild-but-grey forecast. If a night of country isn't your thing, The Bronson is a fine place to catch the vibe on a Monday, grab a late bite, or simply take it easy at home with something moody on the screen. Either way, the week is off to a comfortable start. Enjoy the day, Ottawa, and I'll see you tomorrow.
