Canada and Ukraine signed a defence co-production agreement this week to manufacture military drones domestically, with systems built by Canadian drone maker Sentinel R&D and Ukrainian company Airlogix bound for Ukraine's armed forces.

Defence ministers from both countries signed the pact on the margins of the CANSEC defence trade show in Ottawa. Sentinel is based in Hamilton, Ontario; the joint venture will produce drone systems in Canada for Ukraine's military.

The agreement extends a broader letter of intent both nations signed last fall to co-produce defence technology. Drone technology has rapidly evolved throughout the Ukraine-Russia war and accounts for the majority of casualties in that conflict.
