Fourth hit-and-run in one day leaves male pedestrian injured on Ottawa's south side

A 40-year-old male pedestrian was struck by a vehicle at Conroy Road and Johnston Road, south of Walkley Road, at 10:20 p.m. on October 21. The vehicle fled the scene. The pedestrian sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized in stable condition, according to paramedics.

This was the fourth collision between a vehicle and a vulnerable road user in Ottawa on October 21. Earlier that day, an elderly cyclist was struck by a pickup truck at Fairbanks Avenue and Crestview Road in Alta Vista around 2 p.m. and was reported in critical condition. In the same area and timeframe, a male pedestrian and teens were struck at Earl Armstrong Road and Canyon Walk Drive in Riverside South, with the male pedestrian in serious condition. A 23-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle on Riverside Drive near the RA Centre earlier Tuesday with life-threatening injuries.

Ottawa police issued an urgent plea last week, urging drivers to focus on the road and give vulnerable road users space. As HighOnCity reported on October 20, three people were struck by vehicles on Ottawa's south side that day, with the elderly cyclist at Fairbanks Avenue in critical condition.
