Ottawa is bracing for a prolonged heat wave starting Monday, June 29, with temperatures climbing and humidity making conditions feel significantly hotter.

The high will reach 30°C on Monday with partly cloudy skies and an overnight risk of thunderstorms. Tuesday, June 30, brings the real intensity: a high of 29°C but a humidex of 38 with very humid conditions, sunny breaks, and risk of severe early-day storms.

Canada Day on Wednesday, July 1, will be the hottest day of the stretch. The high will reach 33°C, but the humidex is expected to exceed 40, making it feel like scorching conditions. Showers and storms are possible throughout the day. Little relief comes Thursday with a high of 34°C and an evening chance of showers. Friday will see a humidex of 39 with a high of 34°C and overnight low of 22°C.

Environment Canada is urging residents to check on family, friends, and neighbours who are at higher risk — particularly those living alone — to ensure they have access to cool spaces. The good news arrives by the weekend when the prolonged heat should begin to ease.
