The Kanata-based tech startup incubator L-Spark has teamed with telecommunications giant Telus to launch the Sovereign AI Accelerator, a first-of-its-kind program giving five Canadian-owned startups access to Canada's most powerful supercomputer.
The startups will develop and test their AI solutions on ultra-high-speed computing technology at Telus's Sovereign AI Factory in Rimouski, Quebec, while receiving mentorship from L-Spark on everything from marketing to fundraising. The goal is to turn "ambitious AI roadmaps into scalable, market-ready offerings."
The first cohort includes Montreal-based Airy3D, which specializes in 3D imaging technology for robotics and automotive applications; Codalio, a Sudbury startup building AI-driven enterprise software platforms; Edge Signal, an Ottawa firm helping retailers extract insights from AI tools; Calgary's PataBid, which makes AI-powered software for construction bidding; and Toronto-based TopoLift, specializing in AI-driven business decision-making software.
L-Spark managing director Leo Lax said the partnership addresses a critical gap for Canadian founders. "Canada has no shortage of talented AI visionaries and founders, but too often they lack the coordinated support needed to scale from promising ideas to globally-competitive businesses," he said.
