Meridian Theatres at Centrepointe has joined the growing list of Ottawa properties damaged in the Canada Day storms. The west-end venue is cancelling all shows and events through the end of 2026 due to water infiltration that caused what staff called "considerable damage."

Water damaged the main theatre stage, the orchestra pit, front rows of seating, the studio theatre, the orchestra, the lower studio, lobby, flooring, and a grand piano. The city's general manager of recreation, cultural and facility services said damage assessment is still ongoing and no timeline has been set for restoration planning or completion.

Staff are contacting all "shows, events and rentals through the end of the year" to offer refunds and help identify alternative venues, such as the Shenkman Arts Centre in Orléans. Ticketholders will also receive refunds. The status of performances booked after Dec. 31 will be reassessed in the fall as restoration planning progresses.

The closure is one of multiple major cultural impacts from the July 1 rainstorm. The city has not said how many shows and events have been cancelled or how many people are affected.
