Ontario Premier Doug Ford shuffled his cabinet Thursday, moving David Piccini from the labour portfolio to infrastructure and filling three vacant posts left by recent minister departures.
Ford has lost three cabinet ministers since May this year. Caroline Mulroney, former Treasury Board President, departed the legislature, after which Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy took on dual roles. Stan Cho resigned as minister of tourism, culture and gaming after facing scrutiny over $16,000 in Toronto hotel stays despite living in the city. Neil Lumsden resigned last month as minister of sport and as member of provincial parliament for Hamilton East-Stoney Creek.
The shuffle comes as Ford frames his government's priorities around putting Ontario on solid ground amid U.S. President Donald Trump's trade war. Ford's office did not announce specific names for the three positions to be filled beyond noting that at least a few people are moving around.
Piccini's move to infrastructure follows an investigation by Integrity Commissioner Cathryn Motherwell into his handling of a controversial skills training fund. On Thursday morning, Ford also reannounced plans to make businesses in more sectors eligible for the government's existing fund providing loans to companies affected by U.S. tariffs.
