Ontario is investing $12.75 million in security measures for faith-based and cultural organizations facing threats of hate, with applications opening today.

The Anti-Hate Security and Prevention Grant (AHSP) offers up to $10,000 per organization for physical upgrades, cybersecurity, training, and short-term security measures. The program operates on two streams: a Security and Infrastructure stream funding capital projects and equipment, and a Special Projects stream supporting community-led prevention, education, and awareness initiatives. Organizations apply on a first-come, first-served basis at Ontario.ca/AHSP.

Eligible recipients include religious and spiritual organizations (mosques, synagogues, temples, churches); First Nations, Inuit, Métis and Urban Indigenous organizations and communities; and community-serving organizations including faith-based and cultural schools, childcare providers, and social service organizations.

The funding targets a real need.

"Everyone in Ontario deserves to feel safe when gathering to practice their faith, celebrate their culture and connect with their community," said Graham McGregor, Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism. "Through the expanded Anti-Hate Security and Prevention Grant program, our government is strengthening support for organizations facing threats of hate while investing in prevention and education."

Since 2021, Ontario has invested over $110 million in faith-based and cultural communities, supporting over 6,900 organizations. The province is also running a separate 2024-2026 Safer and Vital Communities Grant program, allocating more than $2 million to 15 community-based, not-for-profit organizations and First Nations Chiefs and Band Councils focused on preventing hate crimes.
