Ontario has added SeatGeek and StubHub to its consumer beware list and issued compliance orders to both companies for allegedly violating new ticket sales rules that took effect this year.

The province introduced a ban on reselling tickets above their original face value, but has not specified which rules each company is accused of breaking. Both companies say they've been making good-faith efforts to comply with the law and working with the government.

SeatGeek's vice-president of government affairs said many sellers on their platform, such as season ticket holders, don't have access to the original face value information and that Ticketmaster has not been forthcoming with those details. Ticketmaster did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The move is part of Ontario's broader effort to crack down on ticket scalping and protect consumers from inflated resale prices.
