The Ottawa 67's sit at 8-4-2 after a 3-1 loss to the Brantford Bulldogs at TD Place on Friday night. Brantford, now 11-4-1 and first in the 20-team Ontario Hockey League, came in with ten Americans, one Swede, one Czech and one Russian in the lineup, and was missing three players, including top scorers Jason Musa and Aiden Kelly.
Ottawa outshot Brantford 32-13 across the final two periods, but the 67's struggled to score and have trailed after the first period in six of their games this season. Assistant coach Paul Stoykewych called the game a benchmark matchup and said the result was disappointing, adding that the team's slow starts have been a recurring problem.
On Saturday night the Senators beat the San Jose Sharks 5-1 at SAP Center to snap a two-game losing streak. Goalie Samuel Ersson stopped 21 shots for his first win since Ottawa acquired him in the off-season, and the club matched its franchise record of nine October victories set in 2007-08.
