Ottawa cleanup underway as city counts storm damage: 2,000 flooded basements

About 2,000 basements across Ottawa experienced flooding after the severe storms that hit on July 1, according to a memo from Ryan Perrault, the city's general manager of Emergency and Protective Services.
Ottawa Fire Services responded to more than 700 calls related to electrical hazards, downed power lines, and other storm-related emergencies. Forestry Services received more than 150 requests for hazardous and fallen trees, and continues to respond to them. Most of the roughly 100 traffic signal issues across the city had been resolved by Friday afternoon, July 3.
The City's Emergency Coordination Centre remains activated and is operating in Enhanced Operations to coordinate recovery efforts across departments and partner agencies. Work continued through Friday as the city moved from immediate emergency response into cleanup and damage assessment.
