Ottawa council will vote on a new transit plan July 15 designed to manage congestion when federal employees return to in-office work and schools resume across the city in September.
City staff identified 48 mobility measures after consulting with the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario and coordinating with transit partners. The plan addresses five key areas: express transit routes to major employment nodes, optimized traffic signal timing and construction coordination, expanded Park & Ride parking, active transportation access, and clear public communication about travel options.
Staff emphasized that the approach aims to get ahead of September pressures. "By identifying these measures, the report hopes to identify pressure points and implement measures that will get ahead of the problem before it begins," the release noted.
Council received a briefing on July 9 to address questions. Councillors will make a final decision on whether to adopt the plan at the July 15 meeting.
