Person killed after being struck by OC Transpo bus on Highway 417

A pedestrian died Wednesday night near Parkdale Avenue after being hit by an out-of-service OC Transpo bus. Police are asking for witnesses and dashcam footage.

A pedestrian died after being struck by an OC Transpo bus on Highway 417 eastbound near Parkdale Avenue Wednesday night around 8:15 p.m.

The person was transported to hospital and died from their injuries. OPP notified the public of the death Thursday morning after investigating overnight.

The out-of-service bus was involved in the collision. Highway 417 was closed for several hours while East Region OPP technical collision investigators and a reconstructionist examined the scene.

OC Transpo said it is supporting all emergency services responding to the scene and will conduct its own investigation. "Our thoughts are with all involved," said Joel Lemieux, director of service delivery and rail operations.

Highway 417 reopened for traffic Thursday. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage to contact Ontario Provincial Police or Crime Stoppers. The identity of the person killed and circumstances of why they were on the highway have not been released.
