A proposed bylaw aimed at preventing bad-faith renovictions moved closer to becoming law after Ottawa's planning and housing committee approved the measure Wednesday, with only Barrhaven East Coun. Wilson Lo dissenting.

Bad-faith renovictions occur when landlords evict tenants claiming major renovations are necessary, then either do not perform the work or rent the unit at a much higher rate, displacing long-term residents under false pretences.
