Ontario Provincial Police have identified a third set of human remains found on a densely wooded property outside Smiths Falls as Lawrence Bertrim, who was 42 when he disappeared on September 30, 2022.
The remains were discovered on August 6 on a 40-acre property on Kelly Jordan Road in Montague Township, west of Highway 15. A cause of death has not been determined, and no charges have been laid in connection with Bertrim's death.
Bertrim's discovery came a day after police announced finding the remains of Robert Lambert, 75, on the same property. Lambert was last seen in the summer of 2018 and was a former owner of the Kelly Jordan Road land. The remains of a third man, Robbie Thomson, 34, were found on the property in October 2025. Four people have been charged in connection with Thomson's death, including three with first-degree murder.
OPP Detective Inspector Jennifer Patton said locating Bertrim marks "a significant development for his family, who have waited nearly four years for answers." Bertrim's mother, Lindle Mindle, said in a statement: "We're sad. We know now he is gone. But we're happy he's coming home. As a parent, I get to bury my child now. Which hurts. But I'm happy that I'm not going to my grave not knowing where he is."
Police have not established whether the three deaths are connected, though investigators have not ruled out links. The OPP Criminal Investigation Branch continues extensive searches of the property. Smiths Falls is located 80 km southwest of Ottawa.
