Montreal truck driver wins $3M lottery, plans to keep driving

Gérald Côté won $3 million on a scratch ticket but says he loves his job too much to retire. He plans to restore a vintage Corvette instead.

Gérald Côté, a Montreal truck driver, won $3 million after purchasing a 30X scratch ticket at a Provigo grocery store. While scanning his ticket at the store's self-serve terminal, he saw numbers accumulating — first three, then 30, then 300 — before confirming the full prize amount at the counter.

The winning ticket was purchased at Provigo located at Place du Commerce in Île-des-Sœurs, Montréal, which will receive a one per cent commission of $30,000.

Unlike many lottery winners who retire immediately, Côté has decided to keep his job. "He loves driving for work," according to reporting on his post-win plans.

Côté is a self-described fan of vintage cars and plans to use his winnings to start a car restoration project, including purchasing a 1960s Corvette.
