Toronto-raised CEBL star Prince Oduro finds success at home

After years chasing basketball dreams abroad, Brampton Honey Badgers' longest-tenured player discovered his opportunity was waiting in Canada all along.

Prince Oduro's basketball journey has come full circle. The 26-year-old CEBL star, who grew up in Toronto, once believed his dreams lay elsewhere. After leaving his hometown to play Division 1 basketball in the United States, Oduro struggled to find consistent playing time.

Growing up experiencing the rich basketball culture in Toronto neighbourhood gyms shaped Oduro's love for the sport. Yet like many Canadian basketball players before him, the traditional path to success ran through the United States.

That changed when Oduro began his CEBL career with the Hamilton Honey Badgers in 2022, where he gradually increased his playing time. His breakthrough came after joining the Brampton Honey Badgers. "That was the first team that believed in me and gave me a chance," Oduro told CBC Sports. "With that chance, a lot of great things have happened".

Now the longest-tenured player in Brampton Honey Badgers history, Oduro's story reflects the rise of the Canadian Elite Basketball League, a league changing what it means to "make it" in Canada. "I thought my dreams were somewhere else," Oduro said. "Then it's like the universe brought me back home and it was actually here".

Oduro is going into his fifth season with the Brampton Honey Badgers.
